Lenten Retreat with Metropolitan Jonah   
     
 
By invitation of the Eastern Orthodox Clergy Conference of San Diego, His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah was hosted by Saint John of Damascus Orthodox Church, on Saturday, and Sunday, March 20 and 21, 2010.


Saturday began with the Akathist to the Theotokos  and the Divine Liturgy celebrated by Metropolitan Jonah and area clergy.  Brunch was served by St John's Auxiliary as our hall was filled to capacity.  
 
Metropolitan Jonah presented two talks during the afternoon.  The first was about Orthodox Spirituality and the second about the Jesus Prayer and the way of silence.  The Saturday Retreat concluded with Great Vespers attended by several local Orthodox priests and their congregations.

Sunday began with the Greeting of Metropolitan Jonah by our children at 8:30 am followed by the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy.  Also celebrating was Archdeacon Kirill Sokolov from northern California.  Once again everyone was served   a   wonderful   meal    after    which     Metropolitan
 
Jonah addressed those present emphasizing the news of the upcoming Bishop's Council to meet in May of this year.
At 3:00 pm, many people gathered to hear Metropolitan Jonah speak about Orthodox Family Life.  The Retreat concluded with Great Vespers served by Metropolitan Jonah and area clergy along with a Pan Orthodox Choir.  Following Great Vespers, a Youth Choir sang for His Beatitude and they verbalized everyone's thought by thanking Metropolitan Jonah "for giving us a reason to be together!"
